Shipping
DHL Express, worldwide.
BaxEDM ships to most countries. The rate moves with the destination. Ask for the current rate when you order.
DAP: duties are yours
All shipments are DAP, Delivered at Place. Import duties, taxes and customs clearance at the destination are the buyer’s responsibility.
On an international shipment, for example to the United States, watch the tracking. When the parcel reaches the destination country, customs can hold it until duties are paid. DHL’s tracking page shows when a fee is due and offers online payment. If the fees stay unpaid, the shipment can be delayed or, in the worst case, returned. A return is charged.
Why a receiver ID number
Customs often wants a unique ID for the receiver. It is generally already on the invoice, and they may still hold the parcel and ask again. Answer promptly or the parcel can be returned.
The notes below are written for the United States and also apply, with different ID names, in other countries outside the EU.
Businesses. The number a carrier uses for US customs is typically the EIN or TIN assigned by the IRS. Customs uses it to identify the receiver and to see that duties are paid.
Private individuals. The number is typically the TIN or the Social Security number. A private receiver can be asked for it before the parcel is cleared. The exact demand depends on the goods, the value and other factors.
Ship without a usable number and the parcel is blocked on arrival until the carrier gets one. Provide nothing, and it is returned. That page includes a tracking screenshot of a generator shipment held because the number was wrong: that page.
US form 5106
FedEx uses form 5106 for shipments entering or leaving the United States. It identifies the importer or recipient, person or business: name, address, contact, and IRS or Social Security number where it applies. A commercial invoice or packing list is still required so customs can value the goods. FedEx form 5106 PDF.
